President's message for May 2023

I wish I had AI to write an inspirational letter this month. I would tell it to make a convincing argument why all men of the parish should be involved with the Men’s Ministry. However, I wonder what kind of argument this would be? Of course, it would be logical and contain all the standard phrases, but would it really explain the deeper reason of why we all have that desire to be part of a community of brothers, sharing fellowship, and guided by the belief in Jesus Christ. This is what we offer, and something we can be part of right now.

Our reputation to serve a good burger is getting out, as the Family of Faith Ministry has asked us again to cook at their family BBQ after the noon Mass on the 21st of May. Come be part, and mark your calendars to participate in this event; this is a great way to learn from our master griller, and meet fellow parishioners. Also, keep in mind the Mission Founder’s Day Pancake breakfast coming up in June.

Please plan to attend our monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, May 2nd at 7:00 in the Church Hall. Pizza and beverages will be served. As a special feature this month, the Father Serra video will be shown, courtesy of the Mission Archives and Gary Dorighi. I look forward to seeing you all.

Yours in Christian Brotherhood,

Greg

George Perry RIP

It is with great sadness that we learned of George's passing on Saturday April 29. George had suffered from cancer for some time and had been on hospice care at home.

Gerorge was a very activer member of our Men's Club over the years. He was Sunshine VP from 2003 to 2005, VP at Large in 2006, President in 2007 and Past President in 2008. He was a Gentle Giant that will be greatly missed by many past and present members.

Faith and Family Welcome Back BBQ May 2023

Faith and Family Welcome Back BBQ May 2023
On May 21st from about 1PM to 3PM (after the noon mass) the Saint Joseph Men’s Ministry will break out the “Holy Smoker” and grill hamburgers and hot dogs for about 200 adults and children. This includes children from our Parish Faith and Family program, their parents, Catechist, and volunteers. It will be served at the Holy Family Picnic area.

This is an opportunity for us to support our Community and our Children. The service activities include BBQ task, set up speakers, traffic safety, parking support, serving of the meal and general cleanup. We will perform all this together with some parents from the program (a community effort).

We are looking for more volunteers to help, if you can help, please email Ashley Weerpass (aweerpass@att.net).

The following have already signed up and we thank them for their support; Steve Radigan (event lead), Jerome Hubacek, Louis Lau, Mike Burns, Lou Zenzen, Tom Leen and Ashley Weerpass

A note from our treasurer ...

"Hello, my name is Axel Brisken and I am the Men's Group Treasurer.  I would like to reexplain the flow of cash in our group.  For any checks written to the Men's Group for Men's Group funds or any various Church funds, the check must be made out to Saint Joseph's Parish.  I will collect these checks, and cash, and submit them with documentation to the Church office.  In the past, the bank has failed to accept checks written otherwise.

For any Men's Group member paying for any Men's Group activity out of their own pocket and wishing to be reimbursed, it is their responsibility to fill out a Reimbursement Form, collect all the receipts, and submit them to our Treasurer (by mail or email).  The Treasurer will then review and sign the Reimbursement Form, add various further forms required by the diocese, and submit the package to the Church office.  The Church office will then write and mail a check to the member.  Turn around time can be as short as a week.  The Reimbursement Form is on the Men's Group web site."

Thanks very much,
Axel.
