Presidents Message April 2022

Presidents Message April 2022
All members and guests are invited to attend our April general meeting in the Church Hall on Tuesday evening (7:00 PM, 5 April). The main purpose of the meeting will be the presentation of our plan for the 225 Vaqueros BBQ Dinner. Since the lifting of many health restrictions, mask have become optional, and social gatherings are allowed.

Please attend this general meeting to see how you can help make this important event a full success. This year, several features have been put in place to make your attendance and participation very easy. Ticket purchase can be made with a credit card, and the SignUp Genius organizing app allows any parishioner to select a helpful task just right for them. Details of how this will be shown at the meeting.

Socializing before the meeting with pizza, beer, and soft drinks will be available for a reasonable donation.

I’ll see you at the meeting

-Greg

Message from VP of Spirituality - April 2022

Message from VP of Spirituality - April 2022
As you know, my favorite preacher, aside from Fr Anthony (😊), is Bishop Robert Barron.  He had a recent sermon in which he said that when you talk of spirituality, most people think of sin. Bishop pointed out that you should think first of grace, because without grace, we cannot discern sin.  Have a happy rest of Lent

In keeping with my usual practice, please pray for our clergy at St. Joseph’s and a couple of seminarians. This month, pray for Aidan Cameron-Smith and Alvaro Santamaria

Mission San Jose’s Musical Memories by Dr. Harmony Murphy

Mission San Jose’s Musical Memories by Dr. Harmony Murphy
DID YOU KNOW Mission San Jose was renowned among the California Missions for its Indian choir and orchestra? Learn from Dr. Harmony Murphy about the music that Padre Narciso Durán and the talented musicians at Mission San Jose created in the 1820s. A professional vocalist, Dr. Murphy will demonstrate this music as part of her presentation in the beautiful and acoustically superb Mission Church. She will perform excerpts from the Misa Solemne, also known as the Misa de San Antonio. This comes from the ancient Mission San José choir manual and was likely performed on Easter Sunday as part of the Holy Week celebration. Join us April 9th at 9:30am in the Mission Church at 43300 Mission Blvd. Fremont, CA 94539. Go to https://mission225.org/speaker-series for details and tickets for this sure-to-be-popular presentation.

The Annual Chuck Wagon BBQ is back -Vaqueros BBQ (Mission 225th themed)

The Annual Chuck Wagon BBQ is back -Vaqueros BBQ (Mission 225th themed)
Men of Saint Joseph, after 2 years the annual BBQ is back rebranded as the Mission 225 Vaqueros BBQ in celebration of the 225th anniversary of the founding of Mission San Jose. This is our annual fund raising event which support parish and school activities and projects such as the Faria Scholarship, Boy Scout projects and mentoring which produced the new Christmas Creche, food for the homeless outreach, and much more.

With the pandemic restrictions, many of us hunkered down and avoided group gatherings and social activities. Now that those restrictions have been relaxed, it’s time to come out of hibernation and reconnect with the members of the Men’s Club and the Parish.

The BBQ dinner will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 7 PM. Tickets for the dinner, raffle, and drinks can be purchased online at https://buytickets.at/saintjosephmenbuyticketsatbsclub/674782 or by downloading the mail-in form found in the parish bulletin, the parish website, and the St. Joseph Men’s Club website. Live sales after Mass will begin starting April 9th. Dinner tickets will NOT be sold the day of the event. Dinner will be limited to 200, so don’t wait to sign up for this highly anticipated event.

We need your help! It takes a lot of people to put on this event. If you haven’t volunteered for any Men’s Club activity during the pandemic, this is your opportunity to make up for lost time. You can sign up at the upcoming Men’s Club general meeting in the parish hall at 7 PM, Tuesday, April 5th, 2022 or online at sign up genius https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080d4aa5af2da1fd0-vaqueros.

Join us for an evening of good friends, good food, and good times in support of your parish on Saturday, April 30 at 7 PM.
