President's Message - July

President's Message - July
Now that summer is here, we can all take a break from a busy and very successful first half of the year. Many Men’s Club members contributed generously with their time and talent to make the most recent event, Mission San Jose Founder’s Weekend Festival, a significant event for whole Mission neighborhood. Thank you to all of you who made this happen.

The July monthly meeting will be Tuesday, the day after the Fourth of July. Fortunately, we will not be marching in any local parades, but for the meeting we will bring out the famous silver grill to demonstrate our burger-cooking methods to celebrate our patriotism. In addition, we will also have a speaker provided by Steve Skala.

Please plan to attend on the 5th, 7:00 in the church Hall , and I will see you at the meeting.

-Greg

Mission 225th Founders Day weekend festival

Mission 225th Founders Day weekend festival
The Founder’s Weekend Festival was a huge success! A huge thank you to Don Kaefer, the festival chairperson and his team. Also a thank you to all the Men’s Club members that helped in so many ways. From helping set up signs and banners (Steve Radigan), and stringing lights for the Gala (Greg Stephens), taking photos for the Gala (Jerome), playing major roles with the Festival (Skip, Ron, Tom Leen, Mike Gaffey) to hosting the Sunday morning pancake breakfast (see Ashley’s article and pics). It’s fair to say we couldn’t have done it without you. Enjoy this short video https://youtu.be/UTEltb4Ewhw courtesy of Tom Coroneos of our partners at Washington Township Museum of Local History. Thank you everyone for coming to our Founder's Weekend Festival. We hope you enjoyed it.

225th Anniversary Series Lecture – July 9th

225th Anniversary Series Lecture – July 9th
José Jesus Vallejo, First Administrator of Mission San José

The next presentation in our Speaker Series at 9:30am on July 9, 2022 will be “José de Jesus Vallejo, First Administrator of Mission San José” given by descendant, Martha Vallejo McGettigan. Once Mexico won its independence from Spain, Mexico removed the padres from administration of the Missions. This post-Mission era was a time of significant change for Mission San José. Mission lands were divided into land grants, and prominent families received these grants to form ranchos. Come learn how once prosperous Mission San José and the Native Californians who lived here were impacted. Though sometimes overshadowed by his younger brother, compared to his father, and sometimes misquoted and misidentified by his daughter, José de Jesus made his mark in the annals of history and with distinction. Register on the Mission 225 Anniversary website: mission225.org to hear the true story of his legacy. The Mission is located at 43300 Mission Blvd. in Fremont.

Men’s Club Recognizes 2022 Scholarship recipient- St. Joseph School 7th Grader

Men’s Club Recognizes 2022 Scholarship recipient- St. Joseph School 7th Grader
A St. Joseph student begins the 7th Grade next year with a little help from the St. Joseph Men’s Club in the form of a tuition grant. The Men’s Club supports a Catholic education from St. Joseph School by offering this grant to a Parishioner’s 6th Grade child entering the 7th Grade. The idea is to reinforce at this critical junior high phase of a Catholic education the Men’s Club founding values of Spirituality, Service, and Fellowship. Of the applicants for this award, Alvin Clement Anthony Thalupadath was judged to have best represented these values in his everyday life. Congratulations Alvin!

2022 Joseph Faria Memorial Scholarship Winner - Dylan DSilva

2022 Joseph Faria Memorial Scholarship Winner - Dylan DSilva
Youth are the future of our church. To support and encourage their participation in Christ’s mission here in St. Joseph Parish, especially after confirmation, the St. Joseph Men's Club has taken proceeds from the Parish BBQ Dinner and use them for a scholarship to recognize a graduating senior’s contribution to the St. Joseph/Mission San Jose Community. The selection committee is in awe over the commitment and accomplishments of the applicants for the scholarship.

The Parish and Men’s Club recognize a young man who embodies the values of our Parish, dedication, involvement, and commitment to Christ’s message. He recently graduated with highest honors from Bellarmine College Prep. He is an active member of St. Joseph Indian faith community. He helped introduce Indian cuisine to the parish “Pancake Breakfast.” Through St. Joseph youth ministry he has provided assistance and donations to the homeless and the Fremont Senior Center. For over five years, he has been a volunteer worker at parish social events. In school he is a tutor, member of the championship robotics team, and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity Restore.

The St. Joseph Men's Club is pleased to present the “Joseph Faria Memorial Scholarship” to Dylan Dsilva.
