President’s Message August 2021

President’s Message August 2021
It’s August and we are seeing the return of some of the familiar summer activities, BBQ’s, Picnics, and small group get togethers. In July the Club hosted, with the support of our Parish and Pastor, our first ever BBQ. The event was conducted outside on the school playground and followed the recommendations of the CDC and diocese. The event was a huge success (read more in the article on BBQ).

This month we once again have an opportunity to welcome back two segments of our Parish: the returning School families and students and the members of our Parish Faith and Family program. The club has been asked to help support a BBQ for each group (read more below).

August will also see us returning to in person Club General meetings, the first will be held on August 3rd and be a pure fellowship event. It will be great to see each other, share stories of summer and reconnect.

On August 15th, the dispensation to not attend in person mass ends. Our Parish has many masses to chose and there is ample space for all (see our Parish website or bulletin for mass times).

That’s all for this month.

Men’s Club host BBQ for State of the Parish Meeting

Men’s Club host BBQ for State of the Parish Meeting
On Saturday 24th of July our Parish conducted its first “State of the Parish “meeting and the Men’s Club hosted a BBQ consisting of hamburgers and hot dogs and side dishes. The meeting and BBQ was well attended, and the club served about 160 people. Everyone enjoyed the food and the opportunity to reconnect with each other in an informal setting. Our thanks to all the members who helped, the Scouts from troop 155 and a special thanks to Skip Phair, Steve Conn for the loan of his BBQ and to Greg Stephens for leading the event.

The meeting will be an in-person meeting outside our Parish Hall and be a pure fellowship event (no presentations or club business). Opportunity for two BBQ volunteer events this August 28th.

Opportunity for two BBQ volunteer events this August 28th.
The club is working with Mrs. Patti Carlton, our school principal, and Sr. Bernadette Nguyen with our Parish Family Faith program to host a BBQ for each group.

The Family Faith program will host a picnic for their families at lunch on the Dominican Sisters grounds (behind the Mission). It is expected that there will be about a hundred people. The club plans to serve hot dogs and hamburgers.

Our St. Joseph School plans to hold a welcome back to school BBQ dinner on the same day for their returning families and students. We expect to have about 120 people.

Please look for an invitation to serve at one or both events, we expect to need about six men for each event. This is a great opportunity to work side by side with others in our parish and share the Men’s Club story and perhaps gain a new member or two.

Message from our Treasurer

Message from our Treasurer
I have been advised by Gina Mehta that our parish's bank is no longer accepting checks which are not explicitly made out to "Saint Joseph Parish".  In the past I have run into this problem and have had to return checks.  So please make sure that when you write checks or receive checks on behalf of the Men's Club, or any function of our church, that the check is written to "Saint Joseph Parish".  Even if it is made out to the Men's Club, the check will no longer be accepted.  Thank you
