President's January Message

President's January Message
Happy New Year and many thanks for all who helped out for the New Church Dedication before Christmas. It was a busy day, but I am grateful for all who participated. We did a great job managing the parking because there was no jam up of cars, and additional parking was always available. Thank you to Mike Gaffey for the efficient plan.
Regarding the new Hall, the church Liturgical Programs have priority, so for the near future, we will continue to meet in the Mission Museum A/V room at 7:00, and stick to our standard schedule of monthly meetings on the 1st Tuesday of the month, on January 2nd . Optional discussion at our meeting.
With the new year, the Men’s Ministry is looking forward to adding new members, and a new Board.
Many have served beyond the standard term, and are now ready for an advisory role. When the opportunity knocks, please consider a leadership position, and continue the Ministry’s purpose within the Parish. We need your support.
Please make plans to join our fellowship of men in the Parish, and I will see you on the 2nd evening of the year. Refreshments for the first meeting of the year will be Chips and Dip along with a beverage of your choice.

Yours in Christian Brotherhood,
-Greg

Christmas 2023 Creche Set Up

Christmas 2023 Creche Set Up
Three Christmases … three different creche locations, each with its own set of
challenges. 2023 was no different. With just days to spare before the refreshed church was to be dedicated, the creche was to be sited in the east entrance vestibule. The Men of St. Joseph anticipated a tight squeeze, but were unprepared for accommodating a yet
to be mounted 85” flat panel display. The better part of a grey, wet day was spent
second guessing how to place the creche and what to do about the canopy so as to not interfere with the flat panel and interior opening doors. When the flat panel was finally hung, we could better see what we were dealing with and the men went to work. The creche was quickly assembled - the Men’s Ministry continues to appreciate Eagle Scout
Lau’s design of the “new” platform. The canopy was left off so as to not block the flat panel, the base and back were dressed, and statues brought in ready for the Liturgical Ladies to complete the set up.
Thankfully, the Men’s Ministry expects (hopes) that the creche will be back in the same place in 2024. Thanks to Phil Boken, Greg Stephens, Lou Zenzen, and Ashley Weerpass for their help.

Happy New Year to All!

-Steve

Men’s Ministry Christmas Party

Men’s Ministry Christmas Party
Jerome provided some great pictures in the December 3rd Newsletter, but here are some “rest of the story” highlights from the Men’s Ministry’s 2nd annual “Christmas in the Mission.” Starting with Mass, our commitment to the Parish was apparent, as we covered the Lector and Usher ministries and sat together with our spouses for the 5:30pm Mass. After Mass, it was a short walk over to the Mission Museum where an abundance of food, desserts, wine, and beverages awaited us, provided by both our members and our Women of St. Joseph partners. The Men’s Ministry supplied the traditional “Christmas Ham.”

Initially, folks gathered in the audiovisual room to “plate up,“ get their first pour of wine, and listen to Ashley’s Christmas Music. But eventually, the museum exhibits, some chairs/tables, and more food and desserts attracted many to explore the rest of the Museum. Nancy and Gary were available, between sips and nibbles, to answer questions about the exhibits, Mission history, and the ongoing Mission Museum Foundation Repair project.

Judging from the time folks started to trickle home, everyone seemed to have a good time! Huge thanks to Skip for providing the ham along with staying with Donna to clean up afterwards. Additional clean up help was provided by Jerome and Aimee, Tom and Lorraine, Greg and Adrienne, Ron Brazil, Pat and Brian, and maybe others as it’s all a distant blur! With everything cleaned up and the audiovisual seating restored to normal, the Old Mission was ready to take in our visiting public the following day! And a big thanks to Vanessa, Mission Administrator, for allowing us to host our gathering in this historic place!

Gary (and Nancy) Dorighi, Fellowship VP

A note for your Treasurer

A note for your Treasurer
Gentlemen,

If you need to make a payment for any Men's Ministry activity, please make your check out to "Saint Joseph Parish", not to me, not to the Men's Ministry, and not to the activity. In the notation portion of the check, you can be more specific with the reason for the payment, if you like.

If you need to file a reimbursement request, you must have receipts for every line item. If the reimbursement is for a Men's Ministry activity, then I need to counter sign the request. If the reimbursement is for any parish activity, bring your request to the parish office and make it clear that someone among the parish staff needs to counter sign it. Paying attention to this little detail will accelerate your reimbursement.

Thank you,
Axel Brisken.
