President's May Message

President's May Message
The Men’s Ministry is a great resource for all men of the parish. We provide an easy way for men to meet and share their talents on all different levels. Currently, the ministry has committed to
participating in a few selected events in the future, but more men would allow us to do more and share our experiences. Consider adding to our group with your fellow brothers, and attend our May general meeting for more details.

Kudos to Ron for organizing out Mission Peak Hike; we all made it to the upper level, and most to the top.
See Steve’s report below.

Please mark your calendars for the Men’s Ministry May meeting. This will be on Tuesday, the 7th in the Church Hall at 7:00. Refreshments will be served on our new tablecloths.

I look forward to seeing you there.

SJMM Mission Peak Hike – April 20 2024

SJMM Mission Peak Hike – April 20 2024
After a warm up hike from far distant parked cars on Mission Blvd, 7 members of the SJMM plus honorary member Jennifer met at the assembly point near the Ohlone digital sign to tackle the climb to the top of Mission Peak via the Peak Trail. The morning started out cool and overcast but soon cleared to cloudless blue skies and perfect weather.

The Adventurers Ron Brazil, Gary Dorighi, Louis Lau, Tom Leen, Steve Radigan, Greg Stephens, Al Rendon and Jennifer Wong set out at 8:41 AM in a pleasant windless 57degF.

The intrepid little band proceeded along the well-marked, well-worn trail at a leisurely rate, with frequent stops for refreshments and photo ops.
After trekking for just over two and half hours and ascending 2144’, the mountaineers achieved the summit at 2472’. There they broke for lunch observing the line of 50 or so other alpinists waiting for their turn to take a picture with the monument atop Mission Peak. (Hmmm … could there be a Mission atop nearby Monument Peak?)
After resting, recouping and taking in the clear views, the footsloggers descended back to the starting point at Ohlone College in just an hour and half.
Coast Watcher Greg Stephens advises the local authorities of suspicious activity via Ham Radio from his vantage point on the peak.
A great time was had by all.
