President's message - December 2024
As the days get colder, we enter the season of preparation. We start by giving thanks for our blessings, and then we reflect on the needed preparations for the future. This season of Advent is about reflection and the preparation for the most important day of the year, the birth of our Lord. When we perform the asks of the season, let us also remember to set aside some time to participate in the St. Joseph Advent services. Thank you to those stewards who helped with the parking direction during the Dominican Boutique event. This help was greatly appreciated by the Sisters, and helped make the event this year a success. Please join us for our Men’s Ministry General Meeting on December 3rd in the Church Hall. Social time start at 7:00 PM with club hors d’oeuvres. Business will include a video on the Advent Season, and planning for our year end Christmas Gathering.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Our celebration will be the usual potluck heavy hors d'oeuvres party. Men's Ministry Members bring $20 for 2025 dues.

More details will be provided at the December 3rd fellowship meeting; however, I’ll be looking for some help with music and decorations.

For 42 years, Las Posadas has been a Christmas-time tradition in Mission San Jose. It reminds us of the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem and provides the local community music and geniality in the days leading up to Christmas. For nine evenings, starting on December 15th, we meet on the porch of the Old Mission San Jose Museum at 6:00pm and process to a local business or site within two blocks singing Christmas carols as we go. Go to https://missionsanjose.org/las-posadas for more information.

A New Home for the Mission’s Silver

The processional silver crucifix and candlestick holders dating back to the original 1809 Adobe Church have been a beautiful sight to behold at each year’s Founder’s Mass celebration. After seeing them superbly displayed for visitors to see at other California Missions, we asked ourselves, “Why not here”? As it happened, Tobias Lee from Troop 120 was seeking an Eagle Scout project at the Mission, and we commissioned him to do the project. With some sponsorship from the Men’s Ministry, the Mission, and Tobias’ fundraising efforts, we moved forward with a conceptual design. After months of measuring, designing, rendering, choosing materials, re-fitting to a new space, constructing, and transporting, we see the gorgeous result. And just in time for the Mission Museum Renewal Project. A big “Thank You” to Tobias Lee, his family, and his supporting scouts.
