Mother Teresa of Calcutta (today Kolkata, India)
Mother Teresa was born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910, in Skopje (now in North Macedonia). She was an Albanian- Indian Roman Catholic nun and Missionary. She found her calling to serve the poorest of poor in Kolkata India. She had a deep, intense Love for Jesus.
She describes her calling “to be Jesus LOVE to the poor and to ensure they know him”.
At the age of 18 she joined the Sisters of Loreto in Ireland and moved to India in 1929 where she taught at Saint Mary’s School for girls for almost 20 years. In 1946 she experienced a “call within her call as a sister”. In her words she stated that Jesus told her he was heart broken at the neglect of the poor in India and that they did not see or know of his love for them. She established the Missionaries of Charity in 1950.
