RCIA (service project)- Steve Radigan

Aug.15th, 2020

In these socially distanced times, the Men’s Club was asked to provide canopies to shade the Right of Christian Initiation of Adults celebration on Saturday, August 15th.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony was held outdoors in St. Joseph’s school parking lot on what was possibly the hottest day of the year.  Bay Area temperatures topped 100 deg. F.

The challenge was to come up with enough awnings to cover approximately 75 initiates, sponsors, family, clergy, and sound and video operators on short notice.

The SJMC responded in a big way.  Don Kaefer managed to obtain a 20′ x 30′ professional tent (at a discount!) to cover the outside socially separated seating.  Steve Conn and Steve Radigan gathered an additional eight 10′ x 10′ to 12′ x 12′ popup canopies from club members who generously loaned theirs for the weekend.  With Steve (The Tent Wizard) Conn’s experience and direction, Steve, Steve, and Ashley completed set up in less than an hour.  Tear down afterwards took a bit longer than that.

All in all, it was a successful event and the organizers thank the Men’s Club for its support. Congratulations to all the new members of St. Joseph Parish!
